Volunteerism

Volunteer Opportunities

Since our inception in the mid-1950s, Lutheran Sunset Ministries has enjoyed a strong support network of volunteers, including those from among our residents, as well as from the broader community beyond the Sunset campus. Volunteers often boast intergenerational ties to Sunset, from parents to grandparents having been residents. Serving in many capacities, the Sunset Volunteer Auxiliary makes a significant contribution to the type and quality of services we are able to offer here. Simply put, they are a welcome and crucial part of day-to-day life at Sunset. Their mission is to improve the lives of those served by our programs. In addition to the countless hours spent volunteering on campus and with residents throughout the year, the Auxiliary hosts two major fundraising activities:

  • Pot O’ Gold Thrift Store

The Pot O’ Gold Thrift Store opened its doors in 2001 to serve as a primary fundraising project of the Auxiliary. Through the sale of donated items, Pot O’ Gold has provided funding for numerous projects for the residents of Sunset. The Store is open each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 305 South Avenue Q (in the former Luckenbach Residence building).

To get more information on making donations or volunteering to Pot O’ Gold, call 254.675.3001.

  • Sunset Home Activities

Whether you’re sharing a smile, helping with an activity, or simply spending time with residents, your presence creates a lasting impact. Volunteer today with our residents for bingo, decorating, upcoming events, and more!

For more information call 254-675-8637 ext. 2247.
