2016 LSM Community Pet Show was a Big Success!

On Saturday, June 18, Lutheran Sunset Ministries (LSM) hosted its Second Annual Community Pet Show at the Sunset Home, the long-term care program of the ministry. Dogs, birds and even a bearded dragon gathered to show off their best qualities for Sunset Home Residents and visiting community members. Other pets included a turtle, sugar gliders, goats, chickens, a dove and a rabbit.

Best Bark, Best Trick and Best Jump were among some of the fun categories for dogs to show off their talents, while other canines chose to show off their looks in the Best Costume, Fluffiest and Longest Tail categories, to name a few. Some of the more unique pets competed for Most Unique, Most Talented, Friendliest and Owner/Pet Look-a-Like.

This was a fun opportunity for the community and our staff members to show off their furry, feathered and scaly friends to some of the best judges in town … our residents! Ribbons and trophies were awarded to the winner of each category and photos will be posted on our Facebook page and website (www.lutheransunset.org).

Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to all of our winners! We plan to have the third annual event in June 2017.

Clifton, Texas (October 13, 2015) — To celebrate Active Aging Week, Lutheran Sunset Ministries – Bosque County’s premier retirement community offering a full continuum of care – recently set the Bosque County record for most people in a chair-based exercise. On Saturday, October 3, 2015, 166 participants gathered at the Clifton High School practice field at 10 a.m. and participated in a 30-minute, instructor-led chair exercise class. The record was filed with the Bosque County Historical Commission on October 13, 2015. To the best of their knowledge, no other records for chair-based exercise have been attempted in Bosque County.

“Although we did not break the Guinness World Record of 481 people, we are thrilled with the outcome of this event,” said Andrea Hikel, Lutheran Sunset Ministries’ marketing and community relations director. “I believe we were successful in promoting active aging and wellness in our community, and really that was the ultimate goal.”

Lutheran Sunset Ministries plans to hold this event again next year with the goal of breaking their current Bosque County record, and maybe even surpassing the Guinness World Record. “We want to thank everyone who volunteered to help with this event,” said Mrs. Hikel. “Without the help of our community, this event wouldn’t have been such a big success. We are truly blessed to live and work in such an amazing community.”
